Shortwave Theatre Festival Casting Call

CFRC 101.9 FM and Cellar Door Project are excited to announce an AUDITION CALL to join the acting company for the second annual Shortwave Theatre Festival, a week of audio drama that we are hosting on CFRC’s airwaves in November 2022! We are excited to announce that we are hiring a team of paid actors for the Shortwave Theatre Festival acting company! We are looking for well rounded Kingston-based actors of varying experiences to to be featured in more than one role in a variety of original radio shows!

All Kingston-based artists are encouraged to submit an application package (see details below). You could be a professional actor, an emerging actor, someone eager to try something new, or a community organizer. Note, you are not auditioning for a role or a show, you are auditioning to join the company. Shortwave Theatre Festival Acting Company members will be offered an honorarium upon project completion.

The Shortwave Theatre Festival is seeking actors that will work well with a diverse team to ignite the imaginations of listeners in the Kingston and beyond. Acting company members will be responsible for working with the festival director, a playwright, and a director to animate a 30-40 minute audio drama to be aired and podcasted by CFRC Radio during the Shortwave Theatre Festival in November 2022.

A few things to take note of:

  • Auditions will take place in early January 2022.
  • Rehearsals for this project will take place throughout January and February with recording in March 2020. Directors will be on hand at rehearsals. Rehearsals may be done virtually.

By 5 PM EST on January 1, please send us your CV with past relevent experience, your interest in radio theatre and your full availability for the first three weeks of January at [email protected]. On audition weekend, please have prepared two contrasting monologues, between one and two minutes in length. These monologues do not have to be memorized. Please be prepared to read sides (script samples) when you arrive at your audition.
