2020-21 Multi-Cultural Programming Coordinator


CFRC 101.9 FM Radio Queen’s University, through the generous support of a Community Radio Fund of Canada Radiometres grant, is hiring a Multicultural Programming Coordinator.  In this role, the successful candidate will recruit and coordinate a collective of 7-10 campus and community volunteers dedicated to researching, writing and producing spoken word and musical programming with a focus on content and music delivered in languages other than English and/or developing programs that reflect and nurture diversity in our community!

The Job Description

  • Recruiting, training, motivating and mentoring volunteers to enhance their skills in developing multicultural/multilingual spoken word and music radio programs;
  • maintain project timelines to develop a total of three weekly music and/or two spoken word programs focusing on content delivered in languages other than English and/or multicultural campus/community clubs and organizations;
  • Facilitating regularly scheduled meetings of the multicultural programming collective and fostering collaboration among volunteers;
  • Monitoring & responding to and acting on email, news feed press releases, event calendar notices; and news tips;
  • coordinating live-on-location and in-studio broadcasting;
  • Monitoring & responding to and acting on email, community and campus news bulletins;
  • Building relationships with campus and community multicultural clubs and organizations
  • coordinating live-on-location and in-studio broadcasting;
  • coordinating recording of interviews and program segments
  • Providing technical support for live and/or virtual coverage of campus/community based cultural events
  • Developing training tools and resources for live broadcast production and spoken word programming in collaboration with Community News Coordinator
  • Presenting three skills-building workshops related to multicultural programming production and live remote broadcasting to current CFRC volunteers and interested campus/community members
  • writing social media copy promoting programs
  • writing copy for podcast versions of each spoken word program
  • Increasing CFRC's visibility on campus and in the community by coordinating circulation of CFRC's broadcast schedule and other promotional materials to multicultural clubs and community organizations
  • Attending staff meetings and completing monthly and final reports 

The Assets & Qualifications We're Looking For

  • be enrolled in or have completed a post-secondary diploma/degree program. 
  • Have at least 1 year of job and/or volunteer experience in communications, public relations, or with community-building organizations
  • Have at least 1 year of volunteer coordination and training experience
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills;
  • Demonstrably excellent communications skills
  • Be a highly motivated self-starter and engaging mentor to Multicultural Programming Collective volunteers
  • Have demonstrable organizational skills
  • Have demonstrable ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Be team-oriented and flexible with work hours
  • Commitment to working in and promoting a diverse, socially inclusive environment
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for live-on-the-scene cultural events coverage

The anticipated start date for this position is September 1st 2020.  The contract is for one year ending August 31st 2021.  Our Multicultural Programs Coordinator will work 25 hours per week which may include evenings and weekends at the rate of $15.00/hour.
