Explore human-bear coexistence with Barrie K. Gilbert, advocate, activist and author

Barrie Gilbert knows a lot about bears from his decades of fieldwork with grizzlies of the North
American west and as a survivor of a near-fatal grizzly attack. Gilbert is the author of One of Us: A
Biologist's Walk Among Bears, which highlights bears' complex environmental and social ecosystems,
and how humans and bears can co-exist and sustain these fragile structures.

On Oct. 27, from 6:30-7:30 p.m., Gilbert will share his work and knowledge at the Kingston Frontenac
Public Library’s Central Branch, in the Friends of the Library Gather Space.
"Bears aren't a common sight in our urban corridor, so having Barrie with us to talk about the world of
bears, especially those of the west, is a unique learning opportunity for the public,” said Jake Miller,
Librarian, Adult Programming. “He's doing a great service by educating the people about these
creatures that need our attention as their environments continue to change.”
