Get Ready to Get Active: Registration is Open for the 2nd Annual YMCA Walk, Run & Roll Challenge!

BROCKVILLE AND KINGSTON, ON – Between July 23 and August 7, walk, run, wheelchair, bike, skateboard, swim, golf – or do whatever you like to be physically active – and complete one of five challenges in the YMCA of Eastern Ontario’s 100 km Walk, Run & Roll Challenge.

This is the second year that the YMCA of Eastern Ontario is hosting the event that raises money to support the mission of the YMCA in building healthier communities.

The 100 km distance is the main event and is symbolic of the distance between Brockville and Kingston YMCA facilities. There are four distances set at 25, 50 and 100 km as well as a 200 km Super Challenge, which represents a “round-way trip” between both Y facilities. Groups can also participate in “relays,” adding distances travelled by group members toward their goal.

“We launched last year’s event after hearing that people were missing their races and other types of physical challenges. Last year’s event was so much fun that we’re doing it again this year, said Rob Adams, CEO, YMCA of Eastern Ontario. “It was very important to us to design an event that not only helps participants to get active but is inclusive of all abilities. That’s why people can choose an activity that best suits them and have the option to challenge themselves as individuals or as part of a team. We hope that everyone has fun while they’re doing good by raising money to support some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.”

The registration fee for an individual is $20. For youth under 12, registration is free. Register by July 9 to get a free Walk, Run & Roll performance t-shirt! Prizes go to top distance travelled and top fundraiser.
Funds raised go to the Y’s Financial Assistance Program, which provides access to healthy programs, safe spaces and inclusive social connections to those who would not otherwise be able to afford it.

“We know that due to the pandemic more people than ever will need assistance to access healthy programs and services,” said Adams. “We hope people will rally behind this fundraiser to help us provide that assistance.”
