The Tea Room at Queen's University shut its doors on November 13th and will remain closed until the end of the academic year in April 2021.
The Tea Room, operated by the Engineering Society (EngSoc) reopened its doors on September 28th 2020 after a lengthy closure beginning in March 2020 due to Covid 19. When it reopened, The Tea Room resumed operations on a take-out service basis.
Engineering Society President Spencer Lee told The Journal, that Tea Room operations have become "untenable" because of the continuation of remote delivery of classes at Queen's. Remote delivery will continue a the university through the remainder of the academic year while winter temperatures and weather conditions provide additional challenges to the tenability of take out service delivery.
The Journal further reported that all staff except for the Head Manager have been terminated and according to Lee, processes "exceeded all regulations and obligations set out in the Employment Standards Act."
Lee also told The Journal that "The Tea Room will reopen as soon as it's possible."
