City seeks input on new sidewalk rest areas

January 19, 2021

As part of the City’s ongoing efforts to make it easier to get around Kingston through active modes of transportation, the City is inviting residents to suggest locations for potential rest areas along three new sidewalks that are planned for 2021:

  • Collins Bay Rd. between Aylmer and Edwin (west side)
  • Gardiners Rd. between Cataraqui Woods and Norris Court (west side)
  • Gardiners Rd. between Princess and O’Connor (east side)

Those interested in providing input on the rest areas are encouraged to visit Get Involved Kingston.

“We want to ensure residents that use this route have the opportunity to weigh in on the best locations for rest areas” says Matt Wood, Project Manager, Transportation Services. “Feedback received during this engagement will be considered in finalizing the sidewalk design.”

These new sidewalks were identified as part of the City’s 5-year Active Transportation Implementation Plan (ATIP) as they will fill in gaps in the City’s sidewalk network.  Improving walkability is one of Council’s strategic priorities.

The project’s Get Involved Kingston page will be open for public input until Feb. 9.  Construction will begin later this year.
