Know before you go this winter season with the City of Kingston’s improved sidewalk and roadway Snowplow Tracker.
Updated for the 2021-22 season, the Snowplow Tracker has improved functionality, now displaying sidewalk clearing progress as well as roadways. “The City continues to improve the accessibility of our transportation network during the winter months,” says Karen Santucci, Director of Public Works and Solid Waste. “With the addition of sidewalk plow tracking, residents will be able to better plan their routes by knowing which routes have already been cleared.”
Developed by the City’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team, the application displays frequently updated data about which streets and sidewalks have been cleared, how long ago they were cleared, and which routes are yet to be cleared. It allows users to track how the City is progressing during and after a winter event.
The application can be found by visiting CityofKingston.ca/Snow. Simply scroll down the page and tap or click on the Snowplow Tracker banner image to load the app. Once the application is open, users can zoom in on specific areas for more detail. Data is only visible on the app when plows are responding to a winter event.
- The City clears 1,800 km of road lanes and 600 km of sidewalks.
- Route priority information is also available at CityofKingston.ca/Snow.
- The Plow Tracker was originally launched in the first quarter of 2020 and has been revised and improved each season since.
