Recipients of the 2020 Mayor’s Arts Awards will be announced and recognized at a virtual event on Jan. 18, 2021 at 7 p.m. This event is open to all members of the public and will be streamed on the City’s YouTube channel.
The Mayor's Arts Awards is an annual recognition program that celebrates high artistic achievement and recognizes extraordinary contributions in and to the arts. By increasing the profile and appreciation of the arts, the Awards enhance the cultural vitality and civic identity of Kingston.
“The arts have the power to bring us together as a community and in this unprecedented time, it’s even more crucial to be supporting and celebrating our arts sector,” explains Danika Lochhead, Manager, Arts and Sector Development. “The awards program is now in its fourth year and we’re so happy that we are able to continue to recognize individual artists, arts organizations, and arts supporters and volunteers and their contributions to the cultural vitality of Kingston.”
In a normal year, recipients are announced at a public event held on a Monday evening in early December; the event is the day before a Council meeting and the recipients also attend the beginning of Council to receive their certificates. Due to the restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the program has adapted to safely acknowledge this year’s recipients.
